Self-employed businesses have played an important role in stimulating economic vitality since the start of this year. Our staff reporter has the story.

People who have lived in Nanjing should be familiar with the image of "Ah Mei", which symbolizes the simple and honest character of the "big radish", a good-humored nickname for Nanjing locals. This IP was created by Li Hongping 13 years ago. Her shop is a few meters away from the memorial archway in the east of the Zhonghua Gate in Nanjing. There are over 400 types of "Ah Mei" peripheral products in the store, as well as popular Nanjing specialty dishes such as duck blood and vermicelli soup. On weekends, her store witnesses an endless stream of customers.

“The sales revenue for this year and the first quarter of last year increased by 165.7% year-on-year. This small store"s daily marketing has reached nearly 20 thousand yuan,” said Li Hongping, General Manager of Nanjing Linglongtian Cultural Development Co., Ltd.

Currently, Li Hongping"s anime team of over 30 people has released 9 series picture books and toured over 60 children"s dramas. The process of creating "IP+" requires continuous financial investment. The cultural industry fund of the Nanjing government has provided great help to her.

At the beginning of this year, Nanjing distributed 3 million yuan of consumption vouchers to over 200 self-employed cultural businesses in a bid to support their development by encouraging them to open online live streaming stores and hold cultural markets.

More and more coffee shops are starting to operate “cultural coffee”, such as the growing popularity of an online coffee product "Shanghai Road" at a coffee shop. The founder of the coffee shop was quoted as saying that since its establishment, the shop has produced a series of original drinks such as "Jinling 1991" and "Half Autumn Festival".

“The so-called "Jinling 1991" is that we mix coffee and wine together to make small Yuanxiao or filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival. We also launched a combination with intangible cultural heritage, and invited Mr. Chen Shiqiu, the successor of Nanjing Baiju rap, to perform a section of coffee wine Yuanxiao and a section of Nanjing snacks,” Liu Yang, founder of Newsroom • Le Coffee, told the reporter.

In the future, Nanjing will also provide support for micro and small businesses in areas such as brand enhancement and financial products, and introduce a three-year action plan to provide more systematic strategies for the growth of small businesses.
